Menace of 2nd Wave
India is in the midst of the 2nd wave of COVID 19. The sudden surge in cases has created a never seen before havoc across the nation. The national daily case count continues to rise at an alarming rate, along with the death rate. In Odisha, the cases spiked with more than 10,000 people being tested positive in one single day in the last 24 hours. The boundary of the so called ‘New Normal’ is being pushed beyond a level of endurance. Despondency looms large as people watch helplessly at the stretched tentacles of the menacing virus.

A Backbreaking Challenge

The pandemic has greatly impacted our lives in unimaginable ways, some seen, some unseen. Since the last several months it has posed an unprecedented challenge to mankind. While we try to cope with the loss of our near and dear ones, the economic and social disruptions further shrouds our hope and belief. It is a greater challenge to the health care system with the changing variant of the virus. Government and the Health Officials are painstakingly working round the clock to accelerate vaccination process so as to reach maximum number of people at an earliest.

A Strange Paradox

It is a pity to see the repeated request of the government to maintain COVID protocol. It is sad to watch the police personnel patrolling tirelessly to make sure everyone maintains safety measures, even going to the extent of raising their baton, levying fine or putting some in the lock up. Many a times we have blamed the government for not having any concrete strategy to combat the transmission. Many a times we have blamed the health providers for not taking adequate care. Many a times we have blamed people around us for becoming catalyst in spreading the virus.

2. Are we taking the necessary precautions as mandated by the Government?
3. Are we sincerely following the rules?
4. Have we ever paused and pondered on the importance of these rules?

Insurgence of the 2nd Wave

The last quarter of 2020 saw a gradual decline in cases and 2021 dawned with a great hope of restoring normalcy in a few weeks. However, in February the nation saw an exponent rise in cases, terming it as the 2nd wave. The lackadaisical attitude of people, the elections, the religious gatherings and functions has triggered the 2nd wave. It came along with new strains and became a cause of great concern. SARS-COV the new mutant is extremely contagious and stubborn, even affecting people in the age bracket of 18 to 45 years and children.

Our Safety; Our Responsibility

The precautions stand same, we just need to practice it religiously. At this crucial juncture, we need to strictly adhere to all the COVID 19 protocols. Wear double mask in case you need to go out, sanitize properly, avoid outside contact as much as possible, get vaccinated and immediately seek medical help if any symptom shows up. Try to stay home as much as possible.

Create A Feel-Good Ambience

Although we always crave to go back home to rest our body and mind, yet staying 24X7 can be quite monotonous and stressful. Adding to the woes, the infodemic and repeated discussion on COVID can be quite depressing. Take every possible step to make your stay at home as pleasing as possible. Focus on the emotional well-being of yourselves and family members. Shrug off the COVID talks and do things that make you feel happy and stress free. Read some good books or watch some interesting movies.
